MediaCorp is requesting to visit NYP mid-to-late-January to share about The MediaCorp International Ideas and Talents Search (M.I.I.T.S) Programme.

Under this programme, MediaCorp would like to conduct a lecture called “The Relevance of Entertainment in Today’s multi-platform Media Landscape”.

This lecture will last 2-3 hours.

Their aim is two-fold :

i) to engage young Singaporeans (17-25) schooling in all our polytechnics to create new multi-media content that works locally and can travel overseas.

ii) to inculcate a sense of national and Asian history by an innovative approach to soliciting ideas from them.

This lecture serves to give students first-hand experience and analysis from a broadcaster’s perspective on the place of today’s entertainment genres.

It covers :-

* the current trends of entertainment, an analysis of what works and why so that students get an insight into how the world of entertainment works and how they can create content to make it work.

* a practitioner’s useful insights into the fascinating world of laughter and cries and perhaps, students will be inspired to ‘write the songs that make the whole world sing.’

* samples of entertainment shows will be used to illustrate the points made in the lecture.

* Q and A for interaction between lecturer and students.

After the lecture, a short video will be shown to titillate the imagination of the students and ends with a challenge which is the assignment: “Select any of these genres – entertainment variety, entertainment reality, gameshows, quizshows and drama” and propose an idea/concept to make this work for your audience in as many platforms (mobile, online, tv, interactive) as possible.

Each student will be given a month to complete their project and submit to Caldecott Productions (CPI).

CPI will select as many as they think contain potential to be further co-developed and produced and provide funding for development (approximately US$2,000 – US$3,000 per project).

The benefits - The student will get direct access and exposure, and practical knowledge of the international media industry.

Terms & Conditions :-
